Sumie García Hirata

Graduated Summa Cum Laude from Savannah College of Art and Design with a degree in Fine Arts with a specialty in film directing (BFA, 2011). Her work as a visual artist has been recognized in group and solo exhibitions in galleries and national and international fairs. Her participation in international exhibitions includes the OCCenter of Contemporary Art in California (2014), Pink Art Fair in Seoul, South Korea (2015), Salón ACME  No. 6 and No. 7 in Mexico City (2018, 2019), La Acacia Gallery in Havana, Cuba (2018) and Zuecca Project Space Spazio Ridotto within the framework of the Venice Architecture Biennale (2018). She has been a recipient of the FONCA Young Creators scholarship on two occasions; in 2015-2016 and 2017-2018.

She is the director of the documentary Relato Familiar, which premiered in the international competition of the Visions du Réel 2017 festival in Switzerland. Relato Familiar has been the winner of "Best Documentary Short Film" at the Morelia International Film Festival, Shorts México, the Canberra Short Film Festival in Australia and was nominated for Ariel 2018 by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Art and Sciences for Best Documentary Short Film .
