Ania Wolowska is a Polish-born designer who has been based in Bacalar, Quintana Roo, for the past 12 years. It was in this natural setting, surrounded by tropical woods, that she discovered her fascination with carpentry and the processes that transform wood into objects. This led to the creation of ITZ - Taller y Estudio, a space dedicated to woodworking and design, which uses endemic woods from southern Mexico to create contemporary furniture.
In her work, Ania collaborates closely with local carpenters and artisans, merging design with regional talent to create pieces that capture the essence of the environment. She draws inspiration from nature, Japanese woodworking techniques, ancient cultures, and rituals that bridge the physical and the spiritual. Her philosophy focuses on quality over quantity: each piece is conceived to endure through time. In this way, she creates timeless objects with simple, honest forms that highlight the natural beauty of the materials she works with.
