Andrés Souto Vilarós

Andrés Souto is an architect, artist and educator.

His work is led by architectural research with a focus on self-construction and popular culture and the way in which these interpret and appropriate official architectural forms. He takes inspiration from the masonry culture (cultura albañil) and questions how new relationships between self-builders, industry, materials, knowledge and intuition inform the collective unconscious.

In 2015 he acquired the Abraaj - RCA Innovation Scholarship to carry out his master's studies in London. Iin 2017 he won the SOM Foundation Fellowship Award for the research project carried out at the Royal College of Art entitled "The Aesthetics of Hope".

His work has been shown in Mexico and the United Kingdom in places such as the Menier Gallery (UK), the Royal Institute of British Architects (UK), The Architecture Center in Bristol (UK), The Building Center (UK), The Workshop London (United Kingdom), Galería CC187 (MX), La Espirituosa (MX), Proyector (MX), Salón Cosa (MX) among others.

He currently directs his architecture, art and research firm: mUcHo studio / workshop and is a subject professor at the Ibero-American University where he teaches the subject of Habitable Space and the project workshop "Architecture of Popular Culture".
