Sebastián Arroyo Hoebens grew up living between Mexico and the Netherlands.
He worked as a film production designer until he decided to follow his passion for creating beautiful objects. He achieved a Master’s degree at Rhode Island School of Design, where he focused on expanding and transgressing the boundaries of his artistic expression.
His current work is influenced by personal experiences, physical surroundings from his Mexican and Dutch background, and this bicultural heritage has yielded the peculiar artistic shaping of his world. The dichotomy between sculpture and functionality is a recurring element in his work. He also has an obsessive preference for handicraft combined with digital technologies in design and manufacture. Thus, he realizes an aesthetic that embraces traditional craft with contemporary materials and techniques.
He lives and works in NYC.
